Exercise:

Pilates is a mind-body exercise method based on 6 principles: control, precision, concentration, flowing movement, centering and breath. This technique improves overall strength and flexibility, enhances postural awareness and helps you perform your daily exercise and activities with greater ease.

Rehabilitation:

Pilates is based on core strengthening and flexibility - two of the most important principles of rehabilitation and injury prevention. Pilates can be used as a tool to rehabilitate from many common musculo-skeletal problems from knee, shoulder, hip and ankle to lower back and neck. The precise movements used throughout a Pilates session are gentle enough to not aggravate injuries, but challenging enough to strengthen supportive muscles needed for a truly healthy body.

Prenatal Pilates:

Because of its emphasis on focused breathing, gentle stretching, and precise technique, Pilates is an ideal exercise program for expectant mothers. With constant supervision, Moms will train and strengthen the body's core muscles without risking harm to mother or unborn child. Strengthening certain muscle groups helps ease labor and aids in swift recovery after pregnancy.

Post Natal:

A Pilates program specifically tailored to the needs of postpartum mothers focuses attention on the abdominal muscles, lower back, and buttocks, as well as how to eliminate pregnancy pounds, treat common discomforts, and overcome stress. Moms may start, with doctor's approval, 6-8 weeks after giving birth.

Conditioning/ Sports/ Specific Exercise Programs:

While Pilates is easily modified for most, if not all, ages, sizes and levels, it can also be a true test of strength and endurance. When practiced at an advanced level, Pilates can be a challenging conditioning workout that can be tailored for specific sports. From running to golf, swimming to dance, professional athletes have been raving about how much Pilates has improved their performance.

Pilates and Performance:

Due to the emphasis on concentration, focus, alignment, and breath control, professional singers, actors, and dancers all find Pilates to be a true performance enhancer. Pilates uses aspects of the Alexander technique, which many actors and singers utilize for proper alignment, as well as breathing exercises great for proper air flow and support when singing. Performance Health Center specializes in teaching performers who must be at the top of their game night after night.
