Kinesiotaping

Kinesiotaping is a therapeutic technique that involves applying a special type of elastic tape to the skin to provide support, reduce pain, and improve muscle function without restricting movement. It is made from a highly elastic material that can stretch up to 140-160% of its original length. This elasticity allows the tape to move with the body, providing support without limiting the range of motion. The tape is breathable and water-resistant, and is designed to be worn for several days, even during physical activity or showering, due to its breathable and water-resistant properties.

Mechanisms of Action:

  • Lifting the Skin: When applied, Kinesio Tape gently lifts the skin away from the underlying tissues. This lifting effect can help to reduce pressure on pain receptors, improve circulation, and facilitate lymphatic drainage.
  • Neuromuscular Feedback: The tape provides sensory input to the skin and underlying muscles, which can enhance proprioception (the body’s awareness of its position and movement). This feedback can help improve muscle function and coordination.
  • Supporting Joints and Muscles: By applying the tape in specific patterns, it can provide support to joints and muscles, reducing strain and assisting in movement while allowing for full functional movement.

Some of the conditions that can benefit from Kinesiotaping include:

  • Muscle Pain and Strains
  • Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)
  • Knee Joint Pain and Dysfunction
  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome
  • Osteoarthritis
  • General knee instability
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Ankle Sprains
  • Swelling and Bruising
  • Postural Support
  • Sports Performance and Injury Prevention
